Born on the banks of the River Mersey, I first watched football when our television arrived. Black and white of course and we often had to hold the aerial by turns to be able to see the game. My brother and I also played Subuteo and I got to know all the League 1 players.
When I went to Liverpool University, Anfield wasn’t too far away and I went to The Kop. My brother went to most home games and wrote reports. When we moved down south we still followed Liverpool FC (LFC), watching in the The Falcon or The Black Bear.
I remind my partner occasionally that in 2005 watching the game from Istanbul he left to go home as like many others thought he LFC had lost when they were 0- 3 down and that Real Madrid would win. As a never give up person, I stayed and watched Steven Gerrard lift the European Cup. Often called The Miracle of Istanbul with Madrid 3, LFC 0. Yet it ended 3-3 and penalties won the Cup.
As I write I am watching the YouTube replay. Gerrard made it 3-1 then Smicer made it 3-2….Then Penalty…..Alonso ….3-3!!
Then came the after match …the penalties.
Dudek the goalie was great and we won. Against all odds we won the Champions League.
Interesting that Rafa Benitez was that Manager, who with Gerrard pulled up LFC in the interval. Sad that Benitez left Everton last week. Not his fault but probably not a great idea.
When we retired we went to Anfield more frequently. We even bought West Brom season tickets for a few years with both Home and Away matches for LFC.

Now that Steven Gerrard has come down from Scotland to be the Aston Villa Manager, we support Villa too!
Great game with Coutinho now in the team. Perhaps Luis Suarez will join!
We watched LFC playing against Crystal Palace. My brother and son watched and texted and I tried not to shout too much.
We love LFC and we know they will never give up. Neither will we.
