Editor’s note: For the Simple Politics Guide we have produced separate guides for the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats and the Greens. Whilst several parties hold more seats than the Greens and the Scottish National Party (43 MPs) holds more seats than the Liberal Democrats (15 MPs) we chose the ‘top four parties’ on the basis of UK-wide representation and by estimated party membership.
Scottish National Party (SNP)
Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)
All party logos are copyright the respective parties.
Sinn Féin
Plaid Cymru
Ulster Unionist Party (UUP)
Alliance Party of Northern Ireland
Reform UK (originally the Brexit Party)
UK Independence Party (UKIP)
Summary
Smaller political parties hold just a small percentage of the seats in the House of Commons, but they can sometimes form a coalition, or enter into an agreement with a larger party elected with a small majority.
A full list of the state of the parties is maintained here and includes more useful detail.
Please note that the political landscape can change rapidly, and parties’ ideologies and priorities may evolve.
