Be thankful you were spared
the weight of ceaseless duty
and perpetual obligation.
Be thankful you were spared
the ‘truth’ of others who naively keep
their own particular brand of truth.
Be thankful you were spared
the misfortunes of those who
keep concealed, their private sadnesses.
Be thankful you were spared
the knowing that we, as humans,
may not always be infallible.
Be thankful you were spared
the living of a life where blame
becomes that thing with no recourse.
Be thankful you were spared
the trust that safeguards
any damage we might leave behind.
Be thankful you were spared
to live the life you may not realise you have,
but one day you may finally recognise.
