Excuse me; I couldn't possibly say Not in a vote anyway Whether my Committee were correct to say What indeed they had to say Given all the facts Indeed, it's best to excuse myself From doing what I ought to do And support the work they were set to do In uncovering the truth The truth! So very inconvenient Incommodious I'd rather be lenient And side-step it if I can Ah, an appointment I cannot break To keep that Parliamentary date And cast the vote I ought to make As leader of this land In truth I seem to be Awkward, awkwardly rather weak-kneed When it comes to standing strong For that strange old thing The truth – Ah truth! So very inconvenient If only its wages were not mis-spent I could avoid its gaze Alas, alack it stares at me And, flinching, I refuse to see The fact that I need to be Walking through the appropriate lobby Supporting the work of a Select Committee Of whom my colleagues form the majority Come this Monday soon I quiver and squirm against the call My conscience screams But I turn to the wall To hide instead of duty Truth! So very inconvenient Incommodious conundrum
