FREEDOM of MOVEMENT ends on 31 DECEMBER 2020 and all EU citizens living in the UK who wish to remain here must apply for SETTLED STATUS by 30 JUNE 2021.

The delegation of the European Union to the UK wants to ensure that all EU citizens know their rights and apply in good time.

Many people have done this already, but the embassy is particularly concerned that some groups may not realise they need settled status and/or may not be able to access the information digitally. These groups include:

  • Senior citizens
  • Students
  • Children
  • East European citizens
  • Non-EU family members
  • Citizens with dual EU and non-EU nationality
  • Roma citizens

To make sure everyone is getting the information they need, the EU has produced leaflets covering various topics. Leaflets can be ordered or read online at:

  • GENERAL LEAFLET: What you need to know as an EU citizen living in the UK [PDF]. Available in all EU languages. 500 leaflets per box.
  • SENIOR LEAFLET: What you need to know as a senior EU citizen living in the UK [PDF]. Available in all EU languages. 200-300 leaflets per box depending on the language.
  • NON-EU LEAFLET: What you need to know as a non-EU citizen living in the UK if you have, or had, a family connection to an EU citizen [PDF]. Available in English only at present. EU language versions will be available soon. 400 leaflets per box.
  • CHILDREN LEAFLET: What you need to know if your child is an EU citizen or if your child is not an EU citizen but you are [PDF]. Available in English only at present. EU language versions will be available soon. 200 leaflets per box.

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland European Movement are working with the EU delegation and have leaflets available. If you need a few leaflets or further details please get in touch with them at [email protected]

They are also requesting that East Midlands councils and MPs have a supply of leaflets and understand their contents.

Other organisations that can help are listed in an earlier article from East Midlands Bylines:

  • Feeling unsettled

Information message As the United Kingdom left the European Union, the European Commission Representation in the UK ceased all its activities as of 1 February 2020.

As is the case in countries that are not Member States of the European Union, the EU opened an EU Delegation to the United Kingdom, under the responsibility of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

In agreement with UK authorities, the EU Delegation to the UK opened on 1 February 2020 in the Europe House in London.

The Delegation will continue the service so far provided by the Representation related to EU Citizens Rights. All enquiries on Citizens’ rights matters can therefore be directed to the Delegation. Citizens can also continue to call the Europe Direct Contact Centre from the United Kingdom under 00 800 6 7 8 9 10 11 (free phone) or submit their question by web form. EU citizens in the UK seeking more information can contact their local embassies or consulates.
